Alvar Aalto Museum
Our proposal offers a new connection between The Museum of Cen- tral Finland and the Alvar Aalto Museum to create a new public space between the existing buildings. Our approach is to create a new ex- tension that allows for a harmonious transition between these beauti- ful Aalto buildings. Our proposal was to unite both the existing Aalto buildings in section but also the intention to offer a stronger visual connection between the museums and their relationship to the mas- terplan and Ruusupuisto Square. The idea of creating a continuous surface that bridges the approach from Ruusupuisto Square through the new extension and to a more private courtyard that is nestled in the existing landscape unites Aalto’s theory of how boundaries be- tween nature and artificiality, between the interior and exterior of the proposal can be united.
