Powis Square
Powis Square is not only a local amenity but is used as one of the backdrops to the famous Notting Hill Carnival every August. We understand that the Square can become a platform for these activities and we think that our concept proposal allows the opportunity to programme a more Civic and public realm to both the Tabernacle and annual events.
This small square is central to an engaged and diverse community and is a place to meet, walk, exercise and play. It is pivotal to the residents and those who may take a breather from the bustle of Portobello Market.
Our aim is to unite the activity of the events and programming of these spaces to offer a calm oasis that will encourage biodiversity with new planting that soften the edges to the houses that surround it. We have joined with Todd Longstaff Gowan to collaborate on the planting and landscape for the Square. Our proposal offers a more cohesive set of spaces that flow across the defined area of Powis Square with new surface that will define a surface and patina that will be emblematic of this newly refurbished Community space.
