Vanbrugh: The Drama of Architecture Exhibition

Vanbrugh: The Drama of Architecture Exhibition

2026

Roz Barr Architects was invited to co-curate ‘The Drama of Architecture’ at the Sir John Soane’s Museum, which celebrates the Baroque architect John Vanbrugh. We worked with the V&A, RIBA and the Bodleian Library to source never-before-exhibited original drawings. The selection includes major projects like Castle Howard and smaller, more experimental designs.

We made a plaster cast model of one fragment of Vanbrugh’s Temple of the Four Winds at Castle Howard, which is central to the drawings. Roz Barr also collaborated with filmmakers Anita Naughton and Jim Venturi, the son of architects Robert Venturi (1925-2018) and Denise Scott Brown (b.1931) for a film which collates footage of Venturi and Scott Brown visiting Blenheim Palace and demonstrates the influence Vanbrugh had on their work and with contemporary architects.
